After 27 years with paint brush in hand, this painting marks the largest that I’ve painted to date. It was a pleasant departure from the smaller and mid-size paintings that I normally do. This scene was on private property to which I had access, along the Willow City Loop between Fredericksberg and Llano, Texas. However, there was only a sprinkling of bluebonnets so I opted for purple verbena. I felt that their lavender hue more abundantly complimented the variety of vivid spring greens and the warm tones of the rock laden road. The semi-backlit trees, glowing in the late afternoon light, added to the drama of this scene.
